LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21, 2026 — Sense/Net today responded to an article published yesterday by The Overseen about the reference footage counted in the company’s 2026 transparency report.
Reference footage is first-person material that Sense/Net licenses to train and calibrate Fullfield Ambient, the tool that fills the streets and rooms of a title with people who do not exist, so that no member of the public appears in it. Reference footage is never shown to viewers. Nobody who appears in it appears in any title.
Sense/Net reports the volume of reference footage it receives in every transparency report, because it believes viewers and performers should know that it exists. The company’s licence requires its licensor to hold consent for all of the footage it supplies, and to warrant that it does. The Consent Standard governs every recording Sense/Net releases. Reference material, which is used only to develop tools and never appears in a title, is covered by the licensor’s consent framework and warranty instead, as the first section of the Standard sets out.
Sense/Net does not name its licensing partners or discuss the terms of its agreements with them.
“Ambient exists so that no member of the public appears in a Sense/Net title,” said Simone Donnelly, head of trust and safety. “We report the reference footage it learns from because we would rather people knew about it than wondered.”
